North Point School organised an insightful, interactive mental health awareness workshop for students of Classes XI and XII during school hours. Conducted by Ms. Gauri Nilkanthan, the initiative focused on emotional well-being, pressing social concerns and informed decision-making.
Highlighting rising anxiety among Generation Z and distressing cases reported in the media, Ms. Gauri Nilkanthan noted that Principal Ms. Sudha Menon recognised the need to foster awareness and encourage meaningful conversations.
The workshop featured four sessions addressing key aspects of adolescent life.
Understanding Mental Health: Students explored emotional awareness, stress management, seeking support and overcoming the stigma surrounding mental health.
Addressing Bullying: Discussions covered physical, verbal and cyberbullying, with students suggesting ways to promote empathy, respect and a safer school environment.
Drugs and Substance Abuse: The session highlighted the consequences of substance abuse, peer pressure and the importance of responsible choices.
Building Resilience and Seeking Help: Students examined healthy coping mechanisms, emotional vulnerability, misconceptions surrounding aggression and masculinity, and links between unresolved trauma and harmful behaviours.
The interactive format encouraged students to express opinions, exchange perspectives and propose practical solutions.
Ultimately, the initiative reaffirmed that education extends beyond academics, nurturing compassion, resilience and a supportive environment where every student feels heard, understood and empowered.
